The hall has hosted concerts (including, reportedly, Pulp), a soup kitchen, dances, and voting as well as many community activities.
The building closed in 1996, and has been heavily vandalised, and damaged internally by fire and general neglect.
The locally run Vestry Hall Trust has been working since then to find funding for reopening the building.
In 2003, Burngreave New Deal for Communities and the City Council agreed to work on what they call ‘transformational’ projects in the Burngreave area.
The Vestry Hall redevelopment is one of these projects, and will create a Community Learning Hub, where local adult learners will be able to access a wide range of services.
If you want to send me your memories of the Vestry Hall before it fell into disrepair, please do! I’ll try to post as many as possible on this site.
